Liquor & Special Amusement Licenses

  1. Liquor Licenses

New Liquor Applications:

  1. Submit an application with the Maine Bureau of Alcoholic Beverages & Lottery Operations (BABLO) with their online BELLS application system.
  2. Submit a municipal application and pay the municipal fee with the Town Clerk’s Office.
  3. Applications will be submitted to the Town Council for approval.
  4. If approved, the Town Clerk’s office will add municipal approval to the state application, and it will then be processed at the state level.
  5. The state will conduct in-person inspections and make final approval.

Renewals:

  1. Submit an application with the Maine Bureau of Alcoholic Beverages & Lottery Operations (BABLO) with their online BELLS application system at least three weeks prior to expiration.
  2. Submit a municipal application and pay the municipal fee with the Town Clerk’s Office.
  3. The Town Clerk’s office will add municipal approval to the state application, and it will then be processed at the state level.

Catering Permits:

  1. Submit an application with the Maine Bureau of Alcoholic Beverages & Lottery Operations (BABLO) with their online BELLS application system at least one week before the scheduled event.
  2. Applications will be submitted to the Chief of Police for approval.
  3. The Town Clerk’s office will add municipal approval to the state application, and it will then be processed at the state level.
  1. Special Amusement

A Special Amusement license is required for any business that serves liquor and has live entertainment, such as live bands, DJs, comedians, dancing, etc. Special Amusement licenses run concurrently with liquor licenses and will need to be renewed each year. (MRSA Title 28-A, §1054)

Special Amusement Application (New & Renewal)

  1. Submit a Special Amusement Application to the Town Clerk’s Office and pay the municipal fee.
  2. Schedule an inspection with the Code Enforcement Officer through Planning & Development.
  3. Once the inspection has passed, the application will be submitted to the council for approval.
  4. If approved, the Town Clerk’s Office will issue the Special Amusement license.
