  1. Student Shellfish General Information

Applying for a student license will provide some credit in the future commercial lottery process depending on a few factors so the amount of credit provided will be determined at the time of commercial application.  You cannot apply for both a student and a commercial license.

  1. 2026 Student Deadlines

January 5th | Intents Available (January 2nd, or first business day thereafter)

 

New Applicant: Who has not held a license in the prior year. First time applicants shall attend at least one educational event sponsored by the Town Marine Resource Committee. The event will be held at Town Hall and attendance will be verified by the Marine Resource Officer or the Town Clerk. Please contact the clerk’s office to arrange a time, (207) 725-6658.

Renewal Applicant: To be eligible to renew their license, students must have attended at least two local, state, or regional shellfish meetings between May 1st and the last Friday in March in the current licensing year. Attendance at such an event will be verified by the Marine Resources Officer or the Town Clerk. Failure to do so will result in denial of the application.  

Thursday April 2nd | Notice of Intent Deadline (First Thursday in April)

Notice of Intents must be filed in person with the Town Clerk’s Office with two satisfactory IDs showing the current residence address.

Acceptable Forms: Maine Driver’s License, Maine State ID, select mail postmarked with your name & address. If you have any questions, please contact the Town Clerk’s Office.

Monday, April 6th | Licenses on Sale 

Call to see if there will be a Lottery, if not, licenses can be purchased.

License Fee:    Resident $210.00   Non-Resident $325.00 


Thursday, April 9th | Lottery Date (Second Thursday in April)

If a lottery is necessary, it will be held at 2:30 p.m. at Town Hall, it will also be streamed live on TV3.

If your name is chosen, you will NOT be notified; it is your responsibility to call the Town Clerk’s Office for lottery results at (207) 725-6658.

Thursday, April 16th | Last Day to Purchase Licenses (Third Thursday in April)

Licenses may be purchases at the Clerk’s Office until 3 p.m.

The license allows the licensee to harvest from May 1, 2026, through September 11, 2026, where and when it is otherwise lawful to do so. You must also purchase a state shellfish license.
