Historic Central Fire Station Redevelopment

Brunswick's historic Central Fire Station (21 Town Hall Place) was built in 1919 and has been continuously occupied by the Fire Department since then. For over a century, our local heroes have been doing their work out of this building. With the opening of the new fire station on Pleasant Street, the historic Central Fire Station presents a special opportunity for redevelopment that supports this unique local history.

The Town hired SMRT to evaluate the condition of the structure for reuse. It is on the Maine Historic Resources Inventory and is eligible for the National Register of Historic Places. You can read the full report below.

The Town Council formed an advisory committee to guide the creation of the Request for Proposals, and is expected to have a final product to recommend to Town Council in February/March of 2023.

Tentative Schedule

Spring 2024
  • Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) Application: The Town and DC will apply for $300,000 in CDBG funds for the affordable housing portion of the project.
  • Due Diligence: DC will be working to meet the terms of the Purchase, Sale, and Developers Agreement prior to the sale of the property.
Summer 2024
  • Close on the sale
  • Development begins
