Update on the closing of the leaf pile at Industry Rd

LEAF PILE CLOSING

The leaf and grass pile located at Public Works on Industry Road is closing permanently effective January 1. The location does not meet the requirements of the Maine Department of Environmental Protection for such a use, and we are unable to upgrade the site to do so.

Residents have always been able to use the Graham Road Processing Facility to dispose of leaves and grass, free of charge, and that will continue to be the case. The hours of operation at Graham Road will be expanded starting January 1 so that residents will have access Tuesday, Thursday, and Saturday, from 8:00 AM to 3:30 PM. Although disposal of the leaves and grass is free, we do require that all residents purchase an annual sticker ($5.00) to be able to use the facility. A fee schedule for residential and commercial disposals and more information can be found at the Graham Road Processing Facility webpage.

Christmas Tree Pick Up Schedule

Christmas Tree Disposal

Your UNDECORATED and UNBAGGED Christmas trees will be picked up from January 5-9 on your normal trash day, weather permitting, or they will be accepted free of charge at the Graham Road Processing Facility during our new expanded hours starting January 6. Please see our website for details.

Jordan Ave parking restrictions map

Upcoming Jordan Avenue Parking Restrictions

Effective January 5, 2026, there will be new parking restrictions on both sides of Jordan Avenue, from Charles Court to Minat Avenue. Under the new ordinance, parking will not be permitted between the hours of 8:00 AM and 4:00 PM, Monday through Friday in response to ongoing traffic congestion associated with the nearby Kate Furbish Elementary School, particularly during morning drop-off and afternoon pick-up times.

The goal of this change is to improve safety, emergency access, and traffic flow in the area. We want to assure residents and visitors that parking will remain allowed outside restricted weekday hours, including evenings, early mornings, and all day on weekends.

Snowplow

New Parking Ban Map

For the upcoming winter season, town-wide parking bans will be declared with a minimum of six hours’ notice for the duration of each storm, except in the Yellow Zone. Parking restrictions in the Yellow Zone would be limited between 12:01am-7am. Learn more about our winter services and and see the new parking ban map here.

Sustainable Brunswick Lecture

Please join us for the Sustainable Brunswick Lecture on Winter Preparation and Road Salt Use on Tuesday, January 13 from 5:00pm-6:30pm at Curtis Library in the Morrell Meeting Room. Presentations from Bill Guindon (Mass Care Coordinator for the Maine Emergency Management Agency) and Josh Katz (previously of MDOT) will dive into best practices for both ecological and personal preparedness this winter. Bill Guindon will discuss winter weather hazards and conditions faced here in Maine, cold-weather preparedness tips, and practical steps for improving personal and community preparedness. Josh Katz, leaning on his 23 years of experience with MDOT working with road salt and water supply issues, will cover the history of winter road maintenance, current practices, and the environmental impacts of road salts on your well and the local ecosystem. Curtis Library will also have various items on display from their Library of Things to inspire attendees to borrow and choose the right tools and supplies for preparedness and sustainability. Register to secure your spot today.

From the Assessor's Office

Following the Town’s 2025 revaluation, the Assessing Office is completing annual assessment updates to ensure property assessments remain current, fair, and reflective of changing market conditions. This ongoing process helps avoid large, unpredictable shifts in assessed values by addressing changes incrementally over time.

As part of this process, income and expense surveys will be mailed to all commercial and multi-family property owners in mid to late January, with a return deadline of April 1, 2026. While these surveys were also sent last year, they will now be sent annually. The information collected is essential for analyzing market trends and maintaining uniform and accurate commercial assessments.

More assessment information is available on our web page.

From the Clerk's Office

Dog Licenses
Dog licenses for the 2026 season are now available for purchase. Please ensure all dog renewals are completed by January 31st to avoid a state-set late fee of $25.

To obtain a new or renewed license, you can visit the Town Clerk’s Office with a copy of your dog’s Rabies Certificate, or you may purchase a license online through Animal Welfare by clicking here. For questions, please contact the Town Clerk’s Office at (207) 725-6658, or email clerks@brunswickme.gov.

Boards and Committees
The list of vacancies for boards and committees has been updated for the coming year. If you are interested in serving on a board or committee, or if you have any questions, please visit the board and committee webpage or contact the Town Clerk’s Department at (207) 725-6658.

From Parks and Recreation

In an effort to streamline and consolidate committees, the Town Council voted on Monday, December 15, to dissolve the Tree and Town Commons committees. Two representatives of the Town Commons committee will be added to the Parks and Recreation Commission (formerly the Recreation Commission).

From The Planning Office

On December 15, the Town Council adopted a new comprehensive plan – our community’s guide for future zoning and land use decisions over the next decade. The new plan, titled “One Brunswick, Beautifully Balance,” is a product of over six years of work by the Comprehensive Plan Update Steering Committee (CPUSC) that was driven by public input at including but not limited to various public input workshops, community forums, surveys, and consulting community stakeholder groups. We encourage you to read the plan at PlanBrunswick.org and to see how your contributions have helped to shape it!
