[ARCHIVED] New Parking Ban Map

parking ban map

For the upcoming winter season, town-wide parking bans will be declared with a minimum of six hours’ notice for the duration of each storm, except in the Yellow Zone. Parking restrictions in the Yellow Zone would be limited between 12:01am-7am.

Parking Ban Procedure

Historically, the Town of Brunswick has used parking bans sparingly in order to minimize the impact on downtown businesses by preserving on-street parking whenever possible. In recent years, the Town has declared parking bans town-wide, with the exception of the Maine Street area between Mill Street and Station Avenue. This approach has proven effective.

The attached new map identifies this area, slightly expanded, as the Yellow Zone. For the upcoming winter season, the intent is to declare town-wide parking bans with a minimum of six hours’ notice for the duration of each storm, except within the Yellow Zone. Parking restrictions in the Yellow Zone would be limited to the hours between 12:01 AM and 7:00 AM.

The map also includes the locations where off-street parking is allowed during a parking ban: Cedar Street Park and Ride, as well as the Cabot Street Lot (Map U14-146). We would request these approved locations move their vehicles within 24 hours of the conclusion of the parking ban in order to allow Public Works to perform final cleanup in those lots.

Sidewalk Winter Maintenance

Winter maintenance of the Town’s sidewalks can be a challenging task, striving to keep Downtown sidewalks fully clear throughout each storm. This year, the plan is to narrow the focus during active storms. Crews will concentrate on maintaining the new concrete sidewalk section on Maine Street and the other sidewalks within the Yellow Zone while it's snowing. Once the storm is winding down, they will shift efforts to fully clear the remainder of the Maine Street sidewalks. Additional sidewalk machines will be deployed toward the end of the storm — after roads have been cleared — to avoid the inefficiency of having plow trucks refill areas that were previously cleared.
