During a special meeting on August 17th, Brunswick Town Councilors unanimously voted to postpone the revaluation indefinitely. The property values in the letters that taxpayers received recently will NOT be used.
For the tax bills being issued in September, the Town Assessor will use last year’s values (i.e., 2022) to assess taxes approved in the 2023-24 budget. However, value adjustments will be made for property changes such as new construction, additions, and other improvements, as well as any identified errors in last year’s data.
The Senior Property Tax Stabilization Program remains in effect for 2023. For those who have qualified for the program, their tax bill will be the same amount as their 2022 tax bill.
Over the next few months, the Town Finance Committee will hold a series of public forums to communicate on the assessment process and the requirement for fair and equitable valuations for all properties. The first meeting will be held on Thursday, August 31st at 6:30 pm, at Town Hall.
