[ARCHIVED] Reminder About Off-Premise Signs

off premise signs FB

Brunswick's Zoning Ordinance prohibits signs advertising a business whose services are not carried out on the property.

What does this mean? Any sign advertising a business whose services are not carried out on the property is considered an off-premise sign—and these are not permitted under Brunswick’s Zoning Ordinance.

What happens if a sign is placed illegally?  Our Code Enforcement Office has the authority to remove unauthorized off-premise signs (on Town property) immediately. Business owners who repeatedly place such signs may also face fines.

Why does this rule exist?

  • To keep Brunswick’s streets safe and free from visual clutter.
  • To protect the character of our community and ensure fair signage practices for all businesses.
  • To comply with town ordinances designed to enhance Brunswick’s environment.

How can you advertise legally?

  • Use signage on your business property that complies with the town’s sign regulations.
  • Take advantage of approved business directories and online marketing.
  • If you have questions, contact Brunswick’s Code Enforcement Office before posting signs to ensure compliance.

We value our business community and encourage responsible advertising that aligns with local regulations. Let’s work together and be part of the team that keeps Brunswick beautiful. For more details, visit the Brunswick Code of Ordinances: Municode Library or the Brunswick Zoning Ordinance.
