Agenda items are generally limited to three items per meeting, with a minimum submission deadline of 5 weeks prior to the scheduled meeting. To find out more details or to be placed on their agenda, please contact the Department at 207-725-6660.


Public Meeting Code of Conduct

  • Speakers will receive a maximum of three (3) minutes for their comment and they may only come to the podium once.
  • Speakers are asked to begin their comments by stating their name and town of residence.
  • Speakers will maintain civility at all times. Hate speech and personal attacks on individual Planning Board members, staff, or citizens will not be tolerated.
  • Audience members are asked to refrain from applauding or verbally responding to any comments. Crowd response is intimidating to those who may have a differing opinion.
  • Our goal is for all participants to have the opportunity to fully engage at Planning Board meetings.
  • Disorderly conduct including, but not limited to, interrupting proceedings or intimidating another participant, will be asked to leave the meeting.

Public Comment

The public may submit written comment in advance of a meeting and may provide live comment during the meeting via Zoom or in person. Public comment is allowed during the public comment period, during public hearings, and on other items and matters at the discretion of the Planning Board Chair or Vice Chair. Written comments should be submitted before the meeting begins, and the public is encouraged to submit comments no later than 12:00 p.m. on the Monday preceding a scheduled meeting to allow time for distribution to the Board. Public comment should be submitted direct to the assigned planner and reference the application number (or project name and address) in the subject line. Mission/Purpose

As established under Title 30-A M.R.S. §4301(12) the Brunswick Planning Board is a reviewing municipal authority. In accordance with the Municipal Code of Ordinances, the Board reviews all development requiring a Planning Board decision or recommendation, including Sketch Plan, Conditional Use, Special Permits, Common Development Plan, and Final Plan applications, waiver requests, and proposed Contract Zoning, Zoning Map and Text Amendments. Through its review, the board implements and ensures consistency with Brunswick’s Comprehensive Plan.

Board Responsibilities

The planning board shall:

(a) Prepare proposed revisions, from time to time as needed, of the Comprehensive Plan and land use ordinances of the Town of Brunswick.

(b) Give the public ample opportunity to be heard concerning revisions to the Comprehensive Plan and the land use ordinances of the Town of Brunswick.

(c) Approve the naming of all streets in proposed subdivisions.

(d) Investigate and report on any problems referred to it in writing by the town council or by the town manager.

(e) Make studies on any area of town development as it may deem necessary.

(f) Make recommendations to the town council concerning any projected capital improvements programs.

(g) Submit a status report of the planning board when requested by the town council.

(h) Recommend such contracts subject to the approval of the town council as it may deem advisable to carry out the objectives and purposes of the board.

The Planning Board consists of seven (7) members that are residents of the Town of Brunswick and appointed by the Town Council for terms of three (3) years.

Annual Reporting

The Planning Board will present to the Town Council on an annual basis.
